Art Conrad, in an effort to protest the commercialism of Christmas, nailed Santa to a cross with a sign that read "Santa died for your Mastercard".
Art was quoted by the Kitsap Sun newspaper as saying "Santa has been perverted from
who he started out to be. Now he’s the person being used
by corporations to get us to buy more stuff. " Apparently he got the idea a few years ago when he read a story about Japanese
merchants mistakenly mixing up symbols in preparing for Christmas,
putting Santa on the cross. Read the story here.
I have to admit, I am a little relieved. When I first saw this picture, I thought for sure the story would read that such and such church had done this as a protest.
Isn’t it sad that I’m relieved it’s NOT a church?!?
