Q – Chuck Colson | Cultural Commission

One of the senior statesmen of followers of Jesus, Chuck Colson is the living embodiment of redemption… creating Prison Fellowship to help redeem the justice system in the United States.  He personally visits prisoners every week – even though he leads a large ministry across the world.

Chuck says that for too long we have told the story of Fall and Redemption.  That is really only half the story.  The Full Story is Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration!  That restoration is the ultimate answer to mankind’s oldest questions:

  • Where did I come from?
  • Why is there sin and suffering?
  • Why am I here?
  • What is the way out of the mess?

A  proper world view for a follower of Jesus is about the redemption and restoration of creation – a Kingdom message – not just what Jesus can do for me.  Chuck said that prison showed him the need for the Kingdom message to move out of the local church and get to the business of cultural redemption and restoration.

A Christ follower working for the redemption and restoration of creation is the natural consequence of believing and living the message of love that Jesus communicated to this planet; not the theme of seclusion and information that can characterize some groups of Christians.  The opposite of a Kingdom mentality is reducing faith down to Jesus and me, and focusing solely on my own comfort in my surroundings until I die and see God. p
